Frequently asked questions

Can Ecopots be used indoors and outdoors?

Absolutely! Our bigger pots include a drainage plug at the bottom, making them suitable for both settings. For indoor use, especially with our larger pots, pairing them with a saucer is advisable to catch excess water. Other than that, feel free to use Ecopots wherever you'd like!

Do all Ecopots include a drainage hole with a rubber plug?

Indeed, with the exception of the mini versions, the majority of Ecopots are equipped with a plug, making them versatile for indoor and outdoor use. We suggest removing the plug when using them indoors along with a saucer and also for outdoor applications to allow surplus water to escape. For outdoor usage, it's crucial to remove the rubber plug during the winter to avoid frost damage.

What materials are used to make Ecopots?

Ecopots are crafted from recycled plastics, addressing the increasing issue of single-use plastics that pollute our oceans. We tackle this problem by repurposing these plastics for our pots, utilizing 80% recycled content. However, it's even more crucial to prevent plastics from becoming waste in the first place. Hence, Ecopots feature a timeless design and color scheme—eschewing the latest fads in hues and shapes—and boast a lifespan of over 10 years. We believe the most sustainable products don't need frequent replacement due to wear or shifting style trends.

Can Ecopots be recycled?

Absolutely! Ecopots are not only crafted from 80% recycled plastics, which is the highest rate in the market today, but they are also completely recyclable. There's no need to consider recycling your Ecopots any time soon, though, as they're built to endure for more than 10 years. But when the time comes for them to be retired, you can be confident that they're entirely recyclable.

Why do Ecopots cost more than other plastic planters?

The market is flooded with plastic planters, and while some also incorporate recycled plastics, none match the quantity and caliber of recycled materials we use. Additionally, Ecopots are distinguished by a unique, handcrafted finish, imparting a one-of-a-kind texture and aesthetic. Our planters closely resemble those made from concrete or natural stone yet retain all the benefits of plastic, including durability, lightness, and frost resistance. Ecopots stand out as a premium, sustainably-made product and should not be equated with the multitude of inexpensive plastic pots prevalent in the market.

Can Ecopots be used to grow edible plants like fruits and herbs safely?

Yes, Ecopots are perfectly safe for cultivating fruits and herbs. They are constructed from recycled materials devoid of toxic substances that could seep into the soil and potentially impact plant growth and human health.

These pots are specifically tailored for horticultural use, having undergone thorough testing to confirm their safety and resilience.

Are Ecopots completely waterproof?

While most Ecopots are designed to be waterproof, there are exceptions. Certain pots and planters include a rubber plug at the base which, despite being snug, may allow for minor water leakage. Therefore, we recommend utilizing a saucer with any Ecopots that have this rubber plug to ensure a leak-free experience.

Should I use a saucer with my Ecopots?

If you're using an Ecopots equipped with a rubber plug at the bottom indoors, we recommend pairing it with a saucer. While our pots are designed to be nearly leakproof, it's not a total guarantee against water seepage that could damage delicate surfaces like carpets or wooden floors. Therefore, it's safest to use a saucer for indoor plantings.

How do the drainage plugs work?

The plugs in Ecopots are the detachable plastic or rubber seals designed to fit into the drainage openings at the base of the pots, allowing you to manage the water drainage.

When using Ecopots outdoors, it's best to take out the plugs to allow excess water to escape, avoiding pot damage due to freezing temperatures.

For indoor settings, it's advisable to leave the plug in place to ensure the pot remains watertight and to prevent water from leaking out. It's also recommended to place a saucer beneath the Ecopots to safeguard your flooring.

Occasionally, you may choose to remove the plug to moderate the soil's moisture level, which helps avoid overwatering and keeps the soil adequately moist without becoming soggy.

Should the plug be taken out during winter?

It's recommended to remove the plug for outdoor pots in the winter. This prevents the risk of frost damage, which can lead to cracks and leaks in the pot.

What's the best method to detach the plug from the pot's base?

Many of our planters come with a black rubber plug on the bottom, which you can take out for outdoor use to let surplus water escape. To remove the plug, turn the pot upside down on a stable, level surface. With a blunt tool like a flathead screwdriver and a hammer, position the tool on the plug and strike it firmly with the hammer. The plug is quite tight, so a strong hit may be necessary. Remember to keep the plug for possible later use.

It's recommended to remove the plug when using the pot indoors with a saucer or outdoors to ensure proper drainage. Especially during winter for outdoor pots, always take the plug out to avert frost damage.

Can Ecopots endure freezing conditions?

Ecopots are constructed to be resistant to frost. They have been designed to endure harsh weather conditions, including those that bring freezing temperatures. Crafted from robust, high-quality recycled materials, Ecopots can withstand frost without suffering from cracks or damage. This means you can rest easy during cold weather, as removing the plug allows excess water to drain away, averting any freeze-induced damage to the pot.
